If I was Prime Minister - Job Seekers Allowance

I'm sitting here before dinner and am thinking about the world. What are the things I'd change if I was Prime Minister? OK maybe the British Prime Minister can't affect the world anymore in the way they used to be able to (although perhaps Gordon Brown hasn't realised this) - so I'll probably just pick on a few things that could change the UK

Job Seekers Allowance

This idea came to me today as I was sitting waiting to give blood. There is never enough blood being donated - how can we get more?
Well people who are on job seeker allowance - or more commonly called the dole, only get their money if they give blood every 2 months and are signed up for the Organ Donor Register.

If they don't give blood, or sign up on the register - no dole money.

What else should people have to do before getting Job Seekers Allowance?

Tomorrow I'm going to tackle fat people!

I'll have £100 on Nick not getting voted in at the next election, I'd love to see you on Question Time though!

How nutty are you? Donating blood is one thing.

Forcing people to "voluntarily" donate organs just because you don't have a job, that's (at least) borderline battery, and reminds me of concentration camps in German Reich. Unemployed = coach class people? Barely good enough to serve as spare parts depot, nothing more? Do you think before you write stuff like this?

One reason to complain about some people on job seekers allowance who misuse the system. Another thing to use such a blog to distribute such ideas.

General note: Force is never a good and fruitful way of making people to stuff that makes sense. Convince them. Convince people to donate blood or register to donate organs. But such a blog entry just shows you are incapable of doing something that makes sense ("moves").

PS: I know you are not going to publish this comments, because you are not the only nitwit with a blog who is incapable of accepting criticism or admitting when he has crossed a line. Disgusting.

Of course I will post your comment - shame you won't leave your real name.

Let's remember that we are only talking about organ donation when someone dies - not when they are still alive!

The idea of the post was firstly a bit of fun, but also a way of starting a discussion to get ideas of how the government could perhaps encourage people to give blood and donate organs.

I had a conversation with a friend on skype after posting this blog post:

me : so would you donate your organs?
him : no way!
me : but would you accept a donated kidney if you needed one?
him : of course!

It is this kind of selfish attitude that we need to get rid of and unfortunately the governments crap policy of just putting a few adverts on TV doesn't change peoples minds.

So how about some other ideas?
1, Tax benefits for donating blood?
2, Donor register is opt out rather than opt in?
3, Students are required to donate blood to get their student loans?

I think that the Blood Service would resist the idea of having many of the typical claimants of jobseekers allowance anywhere near their facilities - there'd not be a needle left after an hour, the grief they'd get from these people for being forced to give blood and the hassles (where do you safely put the 5 snotty-nosed, tea-leaving, noisy, abusive kids in tow?) And that's before the blood taken is checked for usability....

This is addressed at the original author of this blog, I hope that this blog is not taken seriously by anyone else, I am going to take it seriously just for a few mins' just in case anyone has. Apparently you are not meant to personalise these things too much but I am going to. As a type one life long diabetic along with many other people with medical conditions I am excluded from donating blood or organs dead or alive as it would be dangerous for the recipient for me to do so. That does not in anyway reduce the gratefulness I would have if I was to be the recipient of a pancreas from a donor. As far as Jobseekers are concerned I am sorry you call someone like myself as someone on the dole as I usually run SME's and start up Companies however if you want to claim any of your private unemployment polices you have to claim the "dole". The way you describe this issue makes me wonder if you have ever been on the dole have a medical condition or any kind of cross to bare regarding your own state of welfare? While I am looking for a new job and claiming the jobseekers allowance I still have time to stand for election for the Mayor of Hackney to give the power of Mayor back to the people of Hackney so they may improve their lives. So rather than dreaming about what you would do if you where PM why not aim your sights a little lower and stand as a candidate for your local elections and start doing the walk and less of the doing the talk. I look forward to hearing about what you have actually done to help people rather than what you would do.
